Celebration slam
Celebration slam reflection
One of my favorite parts of this whole project goes way back to the beginning of it. Writing the first batch of poems (Haiku, Carpe diem, Elegy, and Free verse) was actually really, really enjoyable to me. I discovered that I CAN write poetry, because for the longest time I thought I wasn’t capable of that, I just need to find something that really inspired me and not try so hard to stick to one single topic. I remember being so inspired by one line in my original free verse that I was able to re-write it and I was so proud of it, I started to write my own poems. The poems that I have been writing on my free time are not all that great and are sometimes a wee bit cliche but I’m still finding my “Style” as a writer but I’m excited to see what direction I head in. I think that personally the hardest thing for me during this project was writing WITH other people, I know it’s a common thing that people think it’s easier to write with other people because then everyone can pitch in. For me on the other hand I prefer to write on my own pieces because everyone is going to have a different writing voice and it’s personally really hard for me to work with other styles of poem writing. Obviously this came up quite a lot whilst working in a group, but I believe that overall we did really great and I did a good job not freaking out on someone. The only thing I would change is not distributing the work/lines evenly just because one of my group members is not wanting to put in as much effort as everyone else because in the end that’s not really helping them and putting a little more work on the rest of us. In the end I actually really loved this project and it kind of opened up one of my newer interests which is poetry.

Semester 2 projects
A Tiny Home is Where the HeART is
A Tiny Home is Where the HeART is description
The beginning of this project focused a lot on open ended questions, listening skills and transcribing to prepare us for the interviews we would be hosting with our artists. We worked in groups of four throughout the whole project, in these groups we created the questions that we asked the artist to get a better understanding of what our artist does and who they are. We then transcribed the interview to make it easier to read and harder to loose. All the information we gathered was used to help us write the articles in our book: A Tiny Home is Where the HeART is .
It took a very long time to complete the articles because they needed to be very well written, had to do the artists justice and told their real story.

A Tiny Home is Where the HeART is reflection
Since it was very close to the beginning of the project and group when we did these interviews, it was actually kind of difficult personally to be very involved in the question creating. I felt like they were not going to agree with the questions I wanted to use, I realized that was not the case later on and wished I would have pitched in more. The actual interview didn't go perfect, but it didn't go bad either. Everyone was just incredibly nervous and really quite and we had to repeat ourselves several times for the artist to hear us. I do believe that if we were to do the interviews again now, we would probably do a lot better because we know how each other works. I unfortunately could not find the interview questions we used.

Character Hats for Romeo and Juliet
Character hats description
Before we started reading Romeo and Juliet we learned about the characters and their personalities. We were asked to create a hat for a character of the play. We paired up and chose a character and with the materials provided we created hats that we would wear when reading for specific characters.

Character hats reflection
Creating the Character hat was a challenge for me personally. I had a great idea and was so excited to see it become a reality. I guess I might have gotten too excited and jinxed it and my hat turned out nothing like what I had planned. The perfectionist inside me was coming out and I freaked out. I was reassured multiple times that it looked okay, but I refused to believe it. When the class was out of time to work on the hats, I was not happy I thought I had failed. When I saw the hat being worn by someone while they were reading I realized that the hat matched the characters personality very well and that made me incredibly proud of creating the hat.
