Mi Cuaderno (My Journal!)
- What does Spanish mean to me?
Spanish to me is my family and the way I communicate with them. It also means my culture and the way I was raised, this is why I added things like conchas and a piñata because these are things that I grew up with and love. - Why is learning/knowing more than one language important?
It also allows me to be able to communicate with other people and I am able to create bonds with so many different people.
- What topics do I want to learn about in this class?
- What am I excited about in this class?
I sing to you poem.
One of our first assignments in this class was to write a poem and make a creative piece about a class mate. This was a great way to get to know our fellow peers.
There is a lot of history and beautiful, powerful work at this park. Chicano park is located in Barrio Logan, San Diego CA. Barrio Logan was at one point the second largest Chicano Barrio community. In 1969 the Coronado Bay bridge was opened, and it's support pylons landed in the center of the barrio which closed a lot of businesses and dislocated a lot of families. The community was promised a 1.8 acre area to be a neighborhood park, but then California tried to turn it into a highway patrol station. The park was finally started on April 22, 1970.
Borderline cases: Words that enlighten
During this project we learned a lot about immigration, focusing mainly on unaccompanied minors. We learned about what life is like in central American and many reasons as to why someone would leave their home country or send their underage kid to a different country with strangers. As our final product of this project we created drawing that answered one of 5 different essential questions in our own opinions.
The 5 essential questions:
1. Why do people immigrate to other countries?
2. What are the challenges they might face when entering a new country?
3. What is the difference between acculturation and assimilation?
4. What things are essential or necessary to achieve success in the US?
5. Is there an American dream? Is it for everyone?

Reflection
This was a really eye opening project for me, I was able to realize the big difference between the way I live my life and the way these children in other countries are living theirs. I got to learn a lot of new things and then turn that news information into an art piece which I really enjoyed.
